Dallas, Phoenix make list of millennial-friendly cities

Moving.com, an online source for moving-related services, just released its list of millennial-friendly cities.

Rather than moving to the East or West Coast, millennials are searching for cities with solid job growth and affordable housing. The cities topping the millenial-friendly list include Dallas; Tallahassee; Athens, Ga.; Phoenix; and Pittsburgh.

Moving.com ranked the winners based on local unemployment rates, affordable rents and home prices and the presence of communities that appeal to Generation Y.

Dallas ranked high with a 6.5% unemployment rate, an average monthly rent of $1,314 and a median home listing price of $204,900.

Tallahassee features cheaper rents with the average monthly price hitting $787. Real estate also is cheaper with the median list price holding steady at $159,000. Unemployment in Tallahassee remains at 6.7%

Phoenix rents are cheaper than Dallas with renters dishing out $828 per month. The area maintains a favorable 6.6% unemployment rate. Home prices also are more affordable with the median list value holding at $185,500.  

Pittsburgh has a 6.3% unemployment rate, average rents in the $1,074 per month range and a median list price of approximately $143,250.
