CFPB clarifies final escrow rule

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau issued a final rule clarifying and making technical amendments to the final escrow rule.

According to the CFPB, the newly amended rules explain how to determine whether or not a county is considered “rural” or “undeserved. The two words were based off of definitions from the United States Department of Agriculture and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.

In addition, since the existing protections in place for higher-priced mortgage loans cut off too early, the CFPB established a temporary provision to expand provisions until January 2014.
