U.S. stocks rose at the start of trading, as measured by the Standard & Poor‘s 500 Index, at 9:31 a.m. New York time.
The S&P 500 rose 0.1 percent to 1,427.39. There were 296 stocks that rose and 156 that fell. Exxon Mobil Corp.(XOM), up 0.3 percent to 87.18, led the gain. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1 percent to 13,151.37. For the year, the S&P 500 has gained 13.5 percent and the Dow has added 7.6 percent.
