Gross purchases of agency mortgage-backed securities totaled $16.8 billion this week, down from $21.3 billion last week, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Meanwhile, the central bank sold $1.7 billion of agency MBS this week, while net purchases of MBS hit $15.1 billion for the same time period.
