Bethesda, Maryland-based American Capital Agency Corp. announced it officially changed its name to AGNC Investment Corp.

AGNC Investment Corp. is a real estate investment trust that invests predominately in agency mortgage-backed securities.

The switch became effective at the end of September, following the closing of AGNC's internalization on July 1, 2016. 

In the addition, the company stated that it will continue to trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under its current ticker symbol "AGNC," and the company's website will remain www.AGNC.com.

The company noted in its announcement that no action is required by stockholders with respect to the name change.
