American election jitters won’t make Canadian housing any cheaper

6 points to consider

With the presidential election a little less than eight months away, Google searches for “Move to Canada” are reaching unmatched levels, an article in MarketWatch by Maria LaMagna reported.

The article noted that after Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump and Democratic hopeful and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton each won seven state primaries on Super Tuesday, the search spiked to its highest level ever.

But before tossing your American Flag pin and heading north to Canada, there’s a lot to consider.

The article in MarketWatch highlights six factors. Here’s a preview of one:

Housing costs are higher

Many cities in the U.S. are notorious for their high costs of living, but many Canadians feel the same way about their cities. Nearly half of people living in urban areas say the cost of buying a home in their neighborhood is either “high” or “unreasonably high,” according to a February 2016 survey of Canadian adults by the Angus Reid Institute, a Canadian not-for-profit organization that commissions research and opinion polls.

And with Super Tuesday No. 3 coming up tomorrow (Florida, Ohio and North Carolina), Google probably hasn’t seen the last of “Move to Canada.”
