Obama Awards Reverse Mortgage Spokesperson With Medal of Freedom

The late Rep. Jack F. Kemp was named a recipient of the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  Kemp along with 15 others including Stephen Hawking, Billie Jean King, Harvey Milk, and Muhammad Yunus received the award. 

The Medal of Freedom is awarded to individuals who make an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors said a statement from the Whitehouse. 

“These outstanding men and women represent an incredible diversity of backgrounds,” Obama said. “Their tremendous accomplishments span fields from science to sports, from fine arts to foreign affairs.”

Jack Kemp, who passed away in May 2009, served as a  U.S. Congressman (1971 – 1989), Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (1989 – 1993), and Republican Nominee for Vice President (1996).  He also played an important role in helping to develop the HECM program and served as a spokesperson for Atlanta, GA based Generation Mortgage.
