NCOA Releases Official Spanish Language Reverse Mortgage Guide

Those interested in learning about reverse mortgages through the National Council on Aging’s official guide can now access the information in Spanish, due to the release of a Spanish-language Use Your Home to Stay at Home booklet.

“NCOA wanted to assure the Spanish version of this important booklet was as widely accessible as possible,” says Amy Ford, director of reverse mortgage counseling services network for NCOA.

Especially as the proportion of Hispanics grows relative to the U.S. population, materials that are accessible to Spanish speakers will be increasingly important, NCOA says.

“Often a limited English proficiency can contribute to barriers for financial success,” Ford says. “Additionally, the 2010 Census noted that Hispanics constitute up to 16% of the total population, and therefore materials available in Spanish is a natural strategic fit for NCOA as we wish to accommodate all seniors considering a reverse mortgage as a possible planning tool for economic security.”

The Department of Housing and Urban Development-approved booklet, which has long been used as an educational tool by NCOA and all reverse mortgage counseling parties, is now available in a Spanish version accessible both in print and online.

The booklet can be downloaded from NCOA in both language versions at
