Michigan new home construction on the rise

More than 4,800 single-family housing permits have been issued in Michigan through May, up 28 % from about 3,750 at the same point last year, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

The Home Builders Association of Michigan in January forecast nearly 14,000 new home permits in 2013. Michigan had more than 10,200 permits in 2012, according to Census data.

“We had a pretty wet and cold spring that slowed things down … Given that, we are still projecting that we’ll hit that mark,” said association CEO Bob Filka.
