When Bank of America (BAC) revised down its first quarter earnings by more than $1 billion earlier this month the stock did an odd thing: it shot up, Financial Times reports.
The reason for the unusual cheer is that Bank of America is sacrificing profit to settle a string of lawsuits, most related to bad mortgages written by Countrywide. The latest is a legal settlement with bond insurer MBIA (MBIA).
