Kansas proposes elimination of home mortage interest deduction

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is again proposing to eliminate state home mortgage interest deductions for those who itemize — a proposal that lawmakers rejected last year.

It’s part of a budget proposal designed to close a projected $260 million gap in the state’s budget. If the plan is approved, the elimination would start this July.
