Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac shares soared to five-year highs, giving the enterprises a combined market value of $48 billion, Bloomberg reports.

To put this into perspective, the combined market value is about the same as BlackRock Inc. (BLK) and Starbucks Corp (SBUX).

"There is a giant disconnect between investors and Washington over whether there is any value," Jaret Seiberg, an analyst at Guggenheim Securities. "Washington can’t fathom there could be value and the investment community seems convinced that there is."
