With most of the Democratic National Convention now complete, a writer for Bloomberg-BusinessWeek is highlighting a significant void in the party’s platform: housing.

The publication writes that “education, health care, small business and new private-sector jobs” all landed in the party’s public platform, but housing was noticeably absent from convention speeches. 

“It’s a tricky political card for the Democrats to play. On one hand, the housing market is finally starting to show signs of improvement,” author Karen Weise wrote. “On the other, foreclosures still haunt the country, including in some key swing states such as Nevada, Florida, and Ohio. And Obama’s key anti-foreclosure effort, the Home Affordable Modification Program, has made a much smaller impact than originally promised.”

The GOP, on the other hand, is beginning to thaw on the issue, using housing as a potential contrast to Obama. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney attacked Democrats Tuesday by blaming the slow economic recovery on lingering housing issues.
