Reverse mortgage originators sound off on current challenges

Six HECM professionals talk about their biggest struggles right now

It’s no secret that business is less than rosy in the reverse mortgage space right now. Changes to the HECM program instituted last October have led to a drastic drop in volume as fewer borrowers benefit from the program under new guidelines.

ReverseReview reached out to six HECM originators to ask them about the biggest challenges they are facing in their work right now.

Predictably, many said that business after what has officially become known as the “10/2 changes” has been altered drastically, forcing them to turn away interested borrowers and get creative about their marketing strategies.

But it also seems that some of the same old challenges remain, including getting past misconceptions about the product, staying motivated and finding cost-effective marketing strategies.
