In this special series, we honor outstanding HECM originators at leading lender companies. We get the scoop on their personal favorites and learn about the secrets to their professional success.

Ten years from now I plan to be a little older and a lot wiser.

My favorite place to vacation is Yosemite. My family and I go every other year and I love it because it has amazing hiking and views.

If I were a professional athlete I would be a backup quarterback. I would love to get paid millions of dollars to hold a clipboard and not have to deal with concussions.

My first car was a Ford Escort. I would still be driving it if I didn’t get rear-ended on the freeway.

My favorite website is espn.com. I love staying up to date with what is going on in the sports world.

My favorite movie is Braveheart. The battle scenes are a little gruesome, but if you can get past that, the movie has it all: action, love, humor, and it is really well written and directed.

I never miss an episode of Game of Thrones. Every episode is like a one-hour movie.

When I was younger I wanted to be a basketball player, but I’m not very tall or coordinated.

Every morning I drink a big glass of water. It is a great way to wake up your body.

I can’t go without water. I drink more of it than anyone I know.

My first job was working at Macy’s in the ladies’ shoe department. Every other job I have had since has been easy in comparison.

My parents taught me how to budget my money. I am very frugal thanks to my dad.

The most memorable moment of my life was my wedding day.

The best purchase I ever made was the engagement ring I bought my wife. It was expensive, but she’s worth every penny.

My favorite book is The Alchemist. It is a very simple story that really makes you think.

The best advice I could give a fellow HECM originator would be to remember that getting a reverse mortgage is a very major decision for the borrower, so don’t rush them.

My biggest sales tip is to not sell a borrower on why they need a reverse mortgage. I explain to them how the program works and if it makes sense for them, I help them through the process. If not, at least the borrower now understands how the program works.

I love my job because I enjoy providing seniors with peace of mind for the future and my workday always goes by really fast.

People should seek a career in the reverse mortgage industry for job security. It is reported that 10,000 Americans turn 62 every day and as people continue to live longer and as the cost of health care increases, I believe the reverse mortgage program will be a much more common financial tool used to make sure seniors don’t outlive their retirement money.

The most challenging part of my job is to get someone who has misconceptions about how the program works to keep an open mind when discussing it with me.

I find my work rewarding because a lot of seniors are burdened by financial stress and usually a reverse mortgage will eliminate or significantly reduce that stress. I really enjoy being able to rid them of that burden.

I entered the industry because there is a lot opportunity to grow your career as the reverse mortgage industry continues to grow.

The most important thing seniors should understand about the reverse mortgage program is that it isn’t only for desperate people as a last resort. Cash flow and liquidity is a common issue for a lot of retirees and the reverse mortgage program can really help with that.
