Leadership Changes Continue at FHA

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced another change to the FHA Commissioner post with Carol Galante replacing Robert Ryan as acting commissioner.

The move comes just three months after Ryan was named acting commissioner following the exit of David Stevens. Stevens exited the FHA to take on the executive leadership role at the Mortgage Bankers Association.  Ryan is being shifted to a new role within HUD to become Senior Advisor for Housing Finance.

Galante has been the Deputy Assistant Secretary for MultiFamily Housing since March of 2009.  Prior to joining the department, she was president and CEO of BRIDGE Housing in San Francisco.  BRIDGE is a non-profit organization that develops affordable housing in California.

In a statement, NRMLA applauded the announcement by HUD.  “Carol Galante is a very talented and experienced executive who has surrounded herself with a strong team,” said Peter Bell, NRMLA President and CEO. “They have been successful in moving FHA multifamily programs forward and developing innovative approaches for dealing with preserving the nation's affordable housing. We're glad to see the Office of Single Family Housing come under her leadership.”
