First designated by President Kennedy in 1963, the month of May each year is marked as "Older Americans Month" to celebrate the contributions of Americans age 65 and older.  The Administration on Aging has announced that this year's theme is "Older Americans Connecting the Community."

The theme is intended to pay homage to the many ways older adults bring inspiration and continuity to the fabric of our communities.  It points to their shared histories and diverse experiences that have had significant impact on the culture and economy throughout the nation.  The impacts of technology in helping older Americans live longer, healthier and more engaged lives is also highlighted in this year's theme.

To commemorate, the Administration on Aging (AoA) is coordinating two contests.  One a Wii video game contest, that encourages senior centers to host compeitions with the winners recognized by the AoA. The other is a "Connecting Generations Video Challenge" that invites participants to enter 90 second videos that features people of different ages to demonstrate the connections between generations.
