Cheryl Brown started at Guardian Mortgage Co. in 1982 as a loan processor in the original Grand Blanc, Mich., office. Thirty four years later, she is the senior vice president, head of operations at the company, now with 13 locations.
As manager of retail operations, Brown was instrumental in the company’s implementation of TRID, working with the compliance department to ensure not only regulatory compliance but also business practice efficiency and customer service levels. Brown also hired a new closing manager, replaced the company’s two most experienced closers and implemented an online closing calendar.
During this time, Brown completed loan process mapping with GMC colleagues to track loan turn times, improve consistency and implement best practices for pipeline management. This identified the need for a new loan process milestone and new colleagues responsible for the milestone, to reduce the application-to-closing timeframe and keep GMC’s post-TRID commitment to close loans in 30 days or less. As a result, Brown was promoted to the senior management team to ensure her experience, knowledge and ideas are shared in strategy and business planning discussions.
