Indictment: Killer murdered man and then sold victim’s home

Allegedly buried victim in yard

Robert Shumway, a former Dallas Area Rapid Transit driver, bought his house in 1984 and lived there for more than 30 years.

And according to an indictment covered in the Dallas Morning News, Shumway was likely murdered and buried there, too.

This was no ordinary crime: The allegation gets pretty twisted from here.

According to Jennifer Emily on the publication’s crime blog, another man named Christopher Colbert allegedly murdered Shumway, buried him and then stole his identity.

The story goes that Colbert posed as Shumway in order to sell his home.

After the sale went through, Emily writes that police believe Colbert used Shumway’s debit card to make withdrawals from the account.

Police arrested Colbert in California and he remains in Los Angeles awaiting extradition.
