Charity donates $800,000 to widows of slain NYPD cops for mortgages

They will also receive money for home renovations

A charity raised over $800,000 to pay off the mortgages of the two widows of slain New York Police Department Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos. Per Daily News:

Their eyes filling with tears, Pei Xia Chen and Maritza Ramos clutched each other and Tunnel to Towers Foundation Chairman Frank Siller after he announced the group had exceeded its goal of raising $800,000.

"Words cannot express the appreciation that is in my heart," Liu's widow said before hundreds of uniformed cops gathered at the Conrad New York Hotel in lower Manhattan.

According to the article, the foundation vowed to pay off the mortgages just a week after Ramos and Lui were gunned down outside a Brooklyn housing project on Dec. 20. They were able to raise $860,000, with another $150,000 in pledges on the way. The extra money will go toward home renovations.
