Willam Matchneer joins Bradley Arant Boult Cummings

Will work with financial services litigation and compliance practice group

The law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings has added William Matchneer to the firm’s financial services litigation and compliance practice group.

Matchneer joins the firm from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where he served as senior counsel with the CFPB’s division of research, markets and regulations. In this role, he served as the team lead for regulations implementing certain aspects of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

His role with the CFPB also involved responding to public and Congressional inquiries on issues involving appraisals, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, the Secure and Fair Enforcement of Mortgage Licensing Act and the Interstate Land Sales Full Disclosure Act.

From 2002 to 2011, Matchneer served in multiple roles with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Most recently, he served as senior attorney advisor with the Office of General Counsel, Program Compliance Division.

In this capacity, he provided legal counsel and guidance to Division attorneys and program clients on enforcement and litigation involving RESPA, and provided legal counsel involving the development of enforcement practices for ILSA and the SAFE Act.

While at HUD, Matchneer also served as a senior administrator for the Office of Regulatory Affairs and Manufactured Housing involving all aspects of HUD’s consumer financial protection programs, as well as the Office of Manufactured Housing Programs.

Earlier in his career, Matchneer was staff counsel to the chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Government Reform, Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources.

He also served as chief counsel to commissioners with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission, as staff counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business, and as chief counsel to the American Worker at a Crossroads Project of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce, Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
