Cari McCue WIH

Like any company going to market, Guardian Mortgage wants to succeed. It goes without saying.

Yet, inevitably, that means they must achieve growth, which is not always an easy ride. Guardian is no different. But in many respects, the Richardson, Texas-based mortgage firm stands apart in the mortgage space because it subscribes to a belief in doing so “rapidly, ethically and responsibly.” Deep in the heart of that philosophy — and indeed the Guardian engine room — is Cari McCue.

Guardian says she has been an integral factor in the company’s growth. Her proudest achievement to date, she says, was launching Guardian’s boutique correspondent lending division, a unit that typifies the firm’s commitment to prudent lending. McCue was only recently promoted to the role of chief operating officer, but it was in her previous position as senior vice president — which she held for 15 years — that she helped push out the correspondent arm. She was at the vanguard of the effort, and, according to recent reports from the company, its correspondent business is going from strength to strength.

Overall, McCue’s role at Guardian positions her at the head of the company’s retail and correspondent pipelines, managing a combined total of more than $100 million per month, along with hedging and securitizing in the secondary market. During the subprime, she is credited as resisting the lure of easy money. For Guardian, and indeed for McCue, their prized integrity bore fruit. Today, as the regulatory changes begin to change lending once more, that’s a philosophy she plans to continue.
