Bank of America posts $2.5B profit

Mega bank Bank of America posted a steep rise in third-quarter earnings Wednesday even at its mortgage operations faltered, suggesting home loans remain an issue for the firm. The New York Times wrote:

Bank of America said its quarterly profit rose to $2.5 billion, or 20 cents a share, from $340 million, effectively 0 cents a share, in the period a year earlier, which was weighed down by litigation expenses and other charges.
