Phil Rasori has dedicated his entire mortgage career to helping lenders implement secondary marketing strategies that maximize profitability while managing risk and rate movement for hedging and loan sales.

As chief operating officer at secondary marketing risk management and advisory firm MCT Trading Inc., Rasori has developed a proprietary mortgage pipeline hedging algorithm that formed the basis for MCT’s successful HALO (Hedging and Loan Sales Optimization) program.

To date, HALO has helped more than 300 lenders become more profitable in secondary loan trades using his hedging model. This has resulted in impressive year-over-year growth that landed MCT on several fastest-growing company lists. The San Diego, California-based firm recorded a three-year sales growth rate of 405%.

Rasori continues to consult numerous lenders and banks on secondary marketing hedging and risk management strategies, and he has worked with the government-sponsored enterprises and U.S. government on hedging best practices. His areas of expertise include complex financial modeling, computational dynamics and linear programming for operational optimization.

He has functionally led MCT operations since 2005 and was named to his current role in 2007. MCT’s clients include banks, credit unions and mortgage bankers that are making the complex shift from a best efforts trading strategy to mandatory commitments.V20 quote

Rasori’s analytical mortgage skills combined with a strong business sense have helped MCT rise to the top of established secondary marketing risk management and advisory firms.

As the chief architect of MCTlive!, a 100% browser-based secondary marketing technology platform released in 2014, Rasori spent more than two years overseeing development and working with multiple MTC hedging clients. Many of the platform’s features were requested by actual secondary marketing managers for their daily use in making hedging and loan sale decisions. MCTlive! provides lenders with robust online tools and real-time analytics for entire secondary marketing departments to reside on for the day-to-day management of loan pipeline and trade positions.

In 2014, Rasori volunteered at the University of California at San Diego, his alma mater, to consult and guide the university’s Economics Department on how mortgage capital markets work in the real estate finance industry. As a result, UCSD created a course based on his guidance, called Econ 177, where analyzing asset versus security price movements was the sole subject.

Rasori also is an active participant in both national and regional mortgage banking trade shows, conferences and events.

His leadership style and mentorship has resulted in a 100% employee retention rate at MCT and the company has been named on several best places to work lists. “My secret to success has been to always maintain focus on the overarching vision and consistently endeavor to not become distracted by small details or obstacles,” he said.
