U.S. stocks rose at the start of trading, as measured by the Standard & Poor's 500 Index, at 9:31 a.m. New York time.
The S&P 500 rose 0.1 percent to 1,427.39. There were 296 stocks that rose and 156 that fell. Exxon Mobil Corp. ($91.53 -0.26%), up 0.3 percent to 87.18, led the gain. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1 percent to 13,151.37. For the year, the S&P 500 has gained 13.5 percent and the Dow has added 7.6 percent.
