NAR secures .REALTOR website domain

Changes standard URL endings

The National Association of Realtors’ new .REALTOR top-level domain will be available Oct. 23 to members of NAR and the Canadian Real Estate Association.

Back in December, HousingWire was the first publication to announce the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ release of more than a thousand potential URL suffixes, a vast increase from the 22 that were in use.

These listings are the first wave of ICANN new generic top-level domain names, or gTLDs, as they are more commonly referred to. Some are already online, and the mortgage-type listings will be available in a matter of months. There is no specific timetable.

“This is truly an exciting time for NAR members to be on the cutting edge of Internet technology,” said NAR President Steve Brown. “When consumers visit a .REALTOR website they will know that they have reached a source of comprehensive and accurate real estate information.”

NAR began the application process for the top-level domain seven years ago through the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.

The new domain will be made available only to real estate professionals who are Realtors, members of NAR or CREA.
