HUD releases funds to house homeless veterans

The U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department will provide $72.6 million to public housing agencies for permanent housing and case management for more than 10,000 homeless veterans, HUD and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs said.

The funds will go to all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

This is the first of two rounds of 2012 funding under HUD’s Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program. HUD expects to announce the remaining funding by the end of this summer.
