Florida loan officer pleads guilty to $6.5M fraud conspiracy

Alejandro Curbelo, a Florida loan officer, recently pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a mortgage fraud scheme that ended in more than $6.5 million in losses.

Working for Great Country Mortgage Bankers, Curbelo admitted to conspiring with others to submit false Federal Housing Administration mortgage applications for unqualified borrowers, offering them cash-back incentives to purchase condominium units in two South Florida complexes.

Curbelo will face a sentence of up to 20 years in prison on June 25.
