Church that made MLK famous faces foreclosure

The St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church out of Lincolnville, Fla., is fighting foreclosure after making history for providing the church pulpit that lifted Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s profile during the civil rights movement.

Peter Guinta, a reporter with The St. Augustine Record, covered the story this week, writing:

St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church in Lincolnville was where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. stood in the pulpit and told 300 demonstrators on June 9, 1964, that he would not celebrate St. Augustine’s 400th birthday as a segregated city.”
