Elizabeth Warren, the architect of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is back in the public eye after landing an appearance in President Obama's re-election campaign.

Warren is combating incumbent Sen. Scott Brown for a Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat and is now featured in a partisan movie called the "The Road We've Traveled," which seeks to suggest the President faced challenges in his first term, according to the Boston Globe.

It was long expected Warren would be nominated for the top CFPB post, but the Obama team instead chose former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray last year.

Critics of the CFPB challenged the agency Warren created for setting up a one-person director post without appropriate legislative oversight or internal supervision.

Warren was criticized in the summer of 2011 for providing lawmakers with vague answers on the initiatives of the CFPB and on what role she played in guiding the massive settlement between lenders and state attorneys general.
